What this site is
NZ Friendship is a public, bilingual record of the international friendship relationships that New Zealand councils, regions and communities maintain overseas — including sister cities, friendly cities and memoranda of understanding. It gathers information that is already public and puts it in one place.
What it is not
It is not an official publication of any council, nor of Global Cities New Zealand. It is not a dating or social-networking service. It does not take political positions.
Data and sources
- Council websites and public notices, where accessible.
- Wikipedia’s “List of twin towns and sister cities in New Zealand”, used under CC BY-SA 4.0 with attribution.
- Chinese-language public records, used to verify dates.
Each entry shows its own source. Where a fact could not be confirmed, it is marked “Unconfirmed” rather than guessed.
Coverage
The first version records 133 relationships involving 37 councils and 20 countries and regions. Coverage is being expanded.
